ly History of the Town of Essex
DESCRIPTION:Essex County Branch of Ontario Ancestors presents a free Zoom w
ebinar "The Rising Village: An Early History of  Essex\, Ontario"\, with
Laurie Brett.\n\nLaurie notes in her book:\n"Before it was a town\, before
it was a village\, before the Canada Southern Railway became the defining
landmark of a small settlement  called Essex Centre\, there was a primit
ive road following a high ridge through the middle of Essex County. The Ri
sing Village begins on that high ridge. It chronicles the arrival of the f
irst settler families of Talbot Road West in the early 19th century\, trac
es the rapid development of a small metropolis\, and introduces a colourfu
